Write for the JWA

The Journal on World Affairs is a student-run news source that seeks to relay complex information on foreign policy and international relations in a palatable way. The JWA’s writers hail from leading universities globally, including Master’s and PhD candidates at Oxford University, Columbia University, The University of Sydney, and The University of South Africa, among others. In addition, they serve in numerous capacities as analysts, writers, and research assistants at leading agencies and think-tanks, including Stanford’s Freeman Spogli Institute, the U.S. Department of Defense, Congress, and the Center a New American Security (CNAS).

We welcome applications from UCLA and non-UCLA students or graduates and encourage all majors to apply. Applications for the Winter are now open and will close on midnight PST Saturday, February 11, 2023.

What’s that? You really want to write for us? Pitch us your article submission using the link below!

What we look for: Tell us a story that has a semblance of theatrical flare. Something interesting that helps the reader capture the essence of your essay and understand the broader issue at hand. We do not produce breaking news pieces, but articles that are critical, argumentative, and relatable.
