Latin American waters have fallen prey to China’s economic pandering, particularly Ecuador, Peru, and Chile. China’s fishing exploitation is heedless towards ecologically sensitive waters, especially the Galapagos Islands, revered for its unique flora and fauna. In one month, 300 fishing vessels have spent a total of 73,000 hours fishing off of the Galapagos coasts.
Known as the most violent dictator in South American history, Pinochet’s military orders were responsible for the deaths of more than three thousand Chileans (many of whom were college students), the disappearance of eleven hundred people, and sending over two hundred thousand Chileans into exile (2% of the Chilean population at the time).
While the Sino-Indian border has long been a subject of competing claims and hostility, the timing of the recent violent altercation suggests ulterior motives. China’s aggressiveness in Asia is undeniable.
However, with the high probability of a divided Congress in the next years, a continuation of this traditional divide over the role of the state will only make voters and lawmakers drift further apart and sabotage any concrete policies proposed by the future Biden Administration.
On December 11, 2019, the Indian parliament passed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which fast tracks citizenship for immigrants from three neighboring nations: Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. It is the first bill in India that explicitly lists religion as a criteria for citizenship
On January 28th 2020, President Trump presented his “Peace To Prosperity Plan” which he hoped would provide a solution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Trump claimed that his vision would help facilitate a two-state solution where both parties practice their own sovereignty under equal civil rights.
